Title: Symbols landing halfway
Post by: scooper on June 24, 2018, 04:24:55 AM
Using TC10pro and 3D symbols I find the symbols always land on the workplane halfway down. Is there a different approach to make the symbols arrive at the correct height?

re: …Using TC10pro and 3D symbols…

Is this TurboCAD Mac 10? Try the TurboCAD Mac Forum (http://tcmacforum.imsisupport.com/index.php), as this is TurboCAD Windows.

They always come in at the location of the Reference Point of the Symbol, which is normally the Center of Extents. If these are the symbols supplied with the program, I believe they will always come out this way. If you're making your own 3D symbols, you can establish the reference point prior to making it a symbol. This should work for individual objects or several objects made into a Group first. When the symbol is dragged out, it should be dragged out by the established reference point and placed on the current workplane.

This is what I get using Version 11; I don't have Version 10.

Thanks John R. I had hoped there was a function which would calculate the height of the symbol then place the reference point 50% higher on the workplane than it does when then reference point is placed on the workplane. It could be possible to make a macro to do this......

Not sure this will work for you in TC10 Pro...

This Macro will do what you want to do which I made in TC2018.

1. Select the object/s. A message box will say "Please make a selection in your drawing to run Z Raising!" if you do not have anything selected.
2. Run the Macro. It will work out the bounding box half Z height and move it by that value.
3. An undo record is made called "Z Raising Selection Macro" so you can undo the action on your selection.

The zip attached contains the *.tcr macro file.

Edit - forgot to add in a if statement for when the Z Min is minus... File updated below ;-) Edit 2 : Further developed with some code as i noticed maths problem with z moves.

Hope it helps ;-)

Thanks Daniel for the macro.
Couldn’t quite run it as it had a command near the end my Version 10 didn’t recognise but I should be able to work something similar out.
