Title: Tyme Cub (Lathe)
Post by: Andy H on October 10, 2015, 10:33:13 AM
Last of my old tools for now, Tyme machines stopped making these in the 90's (though still available second hand), this is from about 1984, it was my first proper Lathe and still works, probably due to their use of the excellent Brook Crompton motor and simplistic design.

Before this I had a Black and  Decker drill attachment lathe, though I have a Record CL3 now which I use so I'm thinking of converting this into a large disk sander.

Drawing and Rendering done using TC v2015 with RedSdk but had lots of problem trying to render it, still never figured out why - after rotating a part that Red automatically give the part a very low diffuse factor (the material is there its just a lot darker than all the other parts), and there is no way to get out of it except make a copy in place of the part and delete the original, it then renders fine - weird.

I've included the hidden line in case anyone wants to build one and is wondering how many parts you need :)

Nice job on this Andy! Lots of parts to model!!!

Is this something you use for work or enjoyment in the real world?

Thanks Don.

This was just a hobby, helped me wind down after my day job mending peoples gas related problems,  especially after visiting some - not very nice people.

The exploded view is just marvelous, Andy.

Excellent renders and I'm in agreement with Henry, the Hidden Line Render is excellent.

Excellent model and render Andy, and you are right the design is so simplistic and probably most who have them have serviced them themselves over the years.

Thanks you all for your kind comments, I actually wasn't sure about including the Hidden line, shrinking everything down to 800 pixels meant threads were impossible to see.

I'm with everyone else - the exploded view is awesome.
Did you create that manually, by moving assemblies side-to-side?
What then, adding lines as drawing elements?
