RedSDK - New Metal Materials
Read 421 times

For those who want some new metal materials to the RedSDK - I prepared a few.
Works with TC 2018 and up (maybe TC2017 but this I did not test)

Thank you kindly, Majo.

I'm looking forward to using them.

Thanks for the work, Majo  :)
BUT
Why the really high IOR?
I mean, that's not by standards.
I test gold with IOR @.47 and turn off fresnal.
With metals, better to have fresnal off.
Mine is the box on the right, yours is on the left.

If I know is more ways how we can setup the metal materials.

I mean, that's not by standards.

What is the Standards?  ::)
Do you think this? -> http://www.downloads.redway3d.com/downloads/public/documentation/tk_creating_a_realistic_metal_material.html

Both ways has the same result = both ways are right  (for me definitely)  ;)

Yes Majo,  :) more ways than one.

I use this list > http://forums.cgsociety.org/t/a-complete-ior-list/1070401

Redway say with fresnal 10+ or fresnal off, you had IOR @ 77.5  ???  just curious, i never see that high of IOR.
I always start with standard then eyeball it  :)
Also, luminance and environment are important.

Why different IOR value? Because higher IOR = more reflection. Look at the attachment on IOR.jpg

If you turn off fresnel parameter then function IOR value is represents by the Reflectance Color/Texture

Also, luminance and environment are important.
Yes, very important!

My feeling is that many users get frustrated using materials. I mean, the material that is created in the render manager often looks a lot different when rendered in model space.
Many moons ago I created a scene in model space similar to the render manager, this taught me all about lighting and environment. I tested using both render engines.
A more advanced Technic is to set up the RM with all the shaders used in MS.

I tried loading in 2017 and got a bunch of errors for the LightWorks materials; such as "Invalid  Majo Metals\Roof was found. It will be ignored.". I had to change the "Metals" category in the MAT file to "Majo Metals", so I didn't have to "Skip/Replace". No problems loading the materials in 2018 or 2019.

Another problem I encountered was all the thumbnails rendered black in RedSDK. That was due to the "Quality Render Mode" being set to "Raytrace Preview". Once I moved it to "Raytrace Fine", it rendered okay.

Dean can you expand some on your "Many moons ago..." as I came to the same conclusion and im just wondering how to simulate the render manager settings in my drawings?

Thanks Majo for sharing these.   I have not normally used a reflectance colour other that grey scale in the past.
