TurboCAD on Windows 8

***Windows 8***
TurboCAD should not work any differently on Windows 8 than it does on Windows 7 with the exception that TurboCAD Pro, and TurboCAD Pro Platinum users may experience abnormalities in graphics in REDsdk mode.  We expect to have an update for version 19 by the end of November to address this.

TurboCAD will not run on Windows RT and devices with ARM processors.

***Update 12-4-2004***

This may take a bit longer than we previously had anticipated.  There is also a problem with working in draft render mode with OpenGL turned on.

I've seen mention of Windows 8 probs with Redsdk and TCs 19/20 pro/platinum
I'm using Windows 7,64bit Dell xps, 8megs ram, NVidia Graphics. I'm running TC19.2. Redsdk works fine for draft render and is much quicker than lightworks smooth open GL. So I switch to Redsdk render for seeing what I'm doing rather than displaying a more finished product. Indeed it is invaluable when twisting and turning my view with anything other than v small drawings/parts of drawings.
I am concerned that when I update my other old vista machine, (which has always had a problem with Redsdk) I will find that Windows 8, or whatever is around, come this summer, will give me Redsdk draft mode problems, from what I have seen here. So can you please tell me ..
a. Is Windows 8 working well with Redsdk and TC19.2
b. Is windows 8 working well with Redsdk and TC20. whatever.
c. Are there particular Graphics systems which are having a problem with Windows 8 in combination with Redsdk or indeed TC 20 in general?

No problems with version 20 and windows 8.  There are some problems still with 19.2 and windows 8.

I'm about to install Windows 8 64-Bit; any updates on what works/doesn't work in TC 19.2?

Have they made an update to fix this problem yet? I'm just about to switch work computers to one with Windows 8 and I use 19 platinum, so I need to know if this will be a problem.

Unfortunately we will not be releasing a fix for v19.  If you want to use REDSDK you will need to upgrade to v20.

I upgraded to Windows 8 64 bit recently and had lots of graphical glitches using Redsdk. With the help of Google I found this (for Nvidia users - not sure if there is a version for AMD users)

http://www.redway3d.com/drivers/Win_eight64_NVIDIA%20Forceware%20310.90.php

These drivers cured all my graphics problems and version 19 now runs as well as it did in 7.

what video card are you using?   I'd like to upgrade my card to allow a 2nd monitor and fix the same Windows 8 64 bit display problems.  Also my current onboard video  is not compatible with the 310.9 driver.  Are you happy with your video card and its performance?  I'd like to go with something proven to work well.

I am using a GT 630 with 2 monitors. I am sure there are more powerful cards out there but it was the one work gave me :) please note you with this card you need to use one analogue and on HDMI output so make sure your monitors are compatible.

I'm pretty pleased with the overall performance but have nothing to compare with, can only assume its going to be faster than an onboard card. I seem to remember reading somewhere its more to do with CPU grunt over the graphics card when it comes to rendering so I went for the Intel i7 3770.

Thanks for the info.  I found a refurbished GT 630 for $25 so I'll give that a whirl...  I'm running an older AMD Athlon 2 core 2000Ghz box so I'll find out how much this card helps.  Just being able to run REDSDK and 2 monitors will help tremendously.  My test will be opening the bike 3d sample that comes with Turbocad.  To rotate that drawing takes minutes of think time now...

I just opened the bike demo that you mention.
I set to Quality Render with REDSDK & Global Illumination fine & RED engine comes back with (around) 55.9 ms and 55 FPS.
I can zoom & rotate the image in above settings with no stutter what so ever.
Will be interested to see what you get once you fit the new card.

I installed the new card and added a 2nd monitor .  The 310.9 driver also fixed my RedSDK Windows 8 display problems so I'm happy!  I notice a general improvement in display speed but not a big difference in rendering speed, so this suggests you are correct that CPU grunt is the important hardware here.  What are your Windows CPU and memory peformance measurement scores?  My PC is overburdened with too much software running right now so I think that is slowing my rendering down.  It used to boot pretty fast but now takes a long time, so I guess I need to jettison some software that is generating services and CPU cycles.

Sorry for slow reply. Been working away from office.
CPU & Memory both score 8.0, graphics only rated at 6.7.
